National Honor Society
National Honor Society is an organization available to students who exhibit excellent standards in scholarship, leadership, service and character. Students interested in NHS must be at least a second semester sophomore. Transfer students must attend at least one semester at VHS before they will be considered for NHS (unless they have a valid NHS membership at their previous high school). NHS students may serve as academic tutors as part of their community service requirement.
Students eligible for NHS must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5, documented community service hours, leadership experience and exemplary character. Students will be selected for membership by a faculty committee based on all four of these categories. Membership is not based on scholarship alone. In the spring semester, students who meet the minimum scholarship criteria will be asked to submit information verifying that they meet the requirements in the other three membership areas. The faculty committee will then select students for membership, and they will be inducted during a formal ceremony in the spring.
